Can This Software Do What I Need?

The right edition depends on whether the job is personal Windows protection, business deployment, server backup, technician work or centralized virtual-machine protection.

  • I want a complete Windows system image I can restore after a failed update or disk problem

    System image backup and recovery

    Supported

System Backup includes the Windows boot-related partitions and system files, and the recovery workflow can restore that image later.

  • I am replacing an HDD with an SSD and want Windows, programs and files moved together

    System or disk migration

    Supported

Professional includes System Clone and Disk Clone. When the target is smaller, the source's used space must fit and sector-by-sector conditions can change the minimum target size.

  • I need backups to run automatically and remove older images before the backup disk fills

    Scheduled backup retention

    Supported

Professional supports scheduled incremental or differential backup, event or USB-triggered jobs and backup schemes that can clean up older images according to configured rules.

  • Windows will not boot and I need to restore from an image

    Recovery outside the installed OS

    Supported

Create WinPE bootable media before a failure. If the recovery environment cannot see a storage or network device, additional storage or network drivers may need to be added to the boot media.

  • I need one backup image restored to different hardware

    Dissimilar-hardware recovery

    Supported

Universal Restore is designed for restoring a system image to dissimilar hardware, such as a replacement PC with a different motherboard or CPU.

  • I need business rights, Windows Server coverage or technician licensing

    Edition choice matters

    Better fit

Professional is positioned for personal use. Workstation, Server, Technician and Technician Plus are the appropriate Backupper tiers when business use, servers or multi-client technician work is required.

  • My source drive uses unsupported storage hardware or a 4096-byte sector layout

    Drive compatibility constraint

    Verify first

AOMEI's current support guidance says Backupper does not support eMMC as a source device and does not back up or clone drives with 4096-byte sectors, although such a drive may still be used to store backup files.

  • I use macOS and want this exact Professional edition

    Different desktop product

    Not supported

AOMEI Backupper Professional is a Windows product. AOMEI Backupper Mac exists separately, but no Mac license is part of the approved purchase data on this page.

How It Works

Choose the protection task first, select the source and destination, configure the schedule or options you actually need, then test the recovery path before relying on the backup.

Create a Windows System Backup

  1. Open AOMEI Backupper Professional and choose System Backup.
  2. Confirm the automatically selected Windows system and boot partitions, then choose a destination such as another disk, external drive, NAS or supported network location.
  3. Set a schedule, incremental/differential method, encryption, compression or image splitting only when those options match the backup plan.
  4. Start the backup, then create recovery media and verify that the image can be located from the recovery environment.

Clone Windows to a New SSD

  1. Connect the destination SSD and confirm it is detected by Windows and AOMEI Backupper Professional.
  2. Choose System Clone or Disk Clone depending on whether you need only the bootable Windows system or the complete source disk.
  3. If moving to a larger target, use Edit Partitions when you want the cloned partitions to consume the additional capacity.
  4. Complete the clone and boot from the destination after the operation finishes.

Recover Files without Restoring the Whole Image

  1. Open AOMEI Backupper Professional and go to Tools → Explore Image.
  2. Select the backup image and the backup point you want to inspect.
  3. Mount the image as a virtual partition and assign a drive letter.
  4. Copy the required files from the mounted virtual drive, then detach the image when finished.

Product Interface & Workflow

AOMEI Backupper Professional separates Backup, Sync, Restore, Clone and recovery tools so the destination is chosen after the job type rather than before it.

Compatibility & Coverage

Professional targets current supported Windows PC editions, while Backupper's broader edition family extends to Windows Server and technician deployment.

Features & Capabilities

The core value is not one backup button but the ability to combine imaging, retention, sync, cloning and offline recovery into a repeatable Windows protection plan.

Backup & Retention

  • File, system, disk and partition backup
  • Incremental and differential backups
  • Daily, weekly, monthly, event-triggered and USB plug-in schedules
  • Backup schemes that automatically remove older images

File Synchronization

  • Basic Sync for one-way copying
  • Real-time Sync for monitored changes
  • Mirror Sync to keep the destination aligned with the source
  • Two-Way Sync for changes in both locations

Clone & Migration

  • System Clone for the bootable Windows environment
  • Disk Clone for the complete source disk
  • Partition/Volume Clone
  • Edit-partition controls when a larger target needs to use its extra capacity

Restore & Recovery

  • System, disk, partition and file restore
  • Universal Restore to dissimilar hardware
  • WinPE bootable recovery media
  • Explore Image to mount an image and copy individual files without a full restore

Image & Task Management

  • Check and explore backup images
  • Backup encryption, compression and image splitting
  • Import/export tasks and review logs
  • Email notifications and pre/post commands for supported jobs

Important Conditions & Limitations

The most important pre-purchase checks are platform licensing, target-disk size, sector layout and whether recovery media can see the storage or network devices you will need during an emergency.

Professional Is for Windows PC Use

AOMEI positions Backupper Professional as personal Windows PC backup, sync and clone software. Business PC use belongs to Workstation, while server and technician scenarios use their corresponding editions.

A Smaller Clone Target Must Still Fit the Used Data

AOMEI says cloning to a smaller disk is possible only when the source's used space fits the target. Encrypted or unsupported file-system partitions may force sector-by-sector cloning, which can require a larger target.

Some Storage Layouts Are Not Supported for Backup or Clone

Current support guidance states that eMMC is not supported as a Backupper source and drives using 4096 bytes per sector are not supported for backup or cloning. A 4096-byte-sector drive may still be used as a location for backup files.

WinPE May Need Extra Drivers

A bootable recovery environment can fail to see an HDD, SSD, USB controller or network adapter if the required driver is missing. AOMEI documents adding storage or network drivers to WinPE media when this happens.

Check the Backup Image before You Need It

The help system includes Check Image and Explore Image tools. Exploring an image can mount it as a virtual drive, which provides a practical way to verify that individual files are present without restoring the whole image.

Free Trial / Free Version

AOMEI offers both a freeware Standard edition and a separate Professional free trial, so you can test the Windows workflow before choosing a paid Professional or business edition.

System Requirements

AOMEI's current manual lists modest minimum hardware, while the Professional product itself is limited to supported Windows PC editions.

Alternatives & Better-Fit Options

Use these supplied SoftKeyRadar pages when the real task is partition management, disk-health monitoring or phone-media transfer rather than Windows image backup.

Hard Disk Sentinel Pro

Choose Hard Disk Sentinel when drive health, temperature, SMART monitoring and early disk-failure warning matter more than backup imaging.

MacX MediaTrans

Use MacX MediaTrans when the task is iPhone/iPad media transfer on macOS rather than Windows system backup or disk cloning.

WinX MediaTrans

Use WinX MediaTrans when the requirement is iPhone/iPad media management on Windows rather than PC backup and recovery.
